Women's History Month Feature: Meet the Women of Karma Sauce!
For Women's History Month we've asked the women members of the Karma Sauce team to curate a kit made of all their favorite sauces. Here's a brief introduction to each of them as well as the reasoning behind the sauce they chose for the kit.
Taylor
Q: What is one fun fact about you?
A: I like to garden. House plants and outdoor plants.
Q: What do you do at Karma Sauce?
A: I am the operations manager, so I take care of the scheduling, the day to day production, making sure that safety standards, training, all that stuff is being followed and that we are updating that as we need to.
Q: What's it like working here?
A: It's fantastic! I really enjoy working here. It is a challenge. Every day is a little bit different even though we're making the same sauces, and we have a really fun group of people to work with so it makes everyday really fun.
Q: Who is your favorite female role model from history?
A: Poison Ivy from the DC Batman series. Mainly because I like plants and gardening, but also because she's an environmentalist, who kind of handles corporations that are not being as green and environmentally friendly as they should be and that's something I'm passionate about.
Q: So which sauce did you choose?
I chose Good Karma, it has been my favorite sauce since the start of Karma Sauce years ago. There's just something about the flavor I really like....I've used it as a marinade for chicken when I'm grilling it, I use it on tacos, a whole bunch of stuff. Everything.

Q: What is one fun fact about you?
I did a college co-op program at disney world and they were remodelling space mountain and us cast members got to ride it first and I got to ride it ten times in a row.
Q: What do you do at Karma Sauce?
I'm a sales person in the wholesale department, so I help build the wholesale business so that stores all across the world can sell our product and it's then local to them.
Q: What do you like about working at Karma Sauce?
I absolutely love the energy here. The production crew is just non-stop on the go and I just thrive off of their energy.
Q: Who is your favorite role model from history?
I chose St. Catherine of Sienna. She is the patron-saint of young girls and she said "be who god meant you to be and you will set the world on fire".
Q: So which sauce did you choose?
I chose Smokey Karma. I love the flavor. You don't always have the opportunity to cook meat over the grill so I love the smokey taste that it brings when I don't have time to smoke meat.
Marsháll
Q: What is one fun fact about you?
A: My name is exactly spelled the male version of the name "Marsháll", and that's because I'm named after Marshall amplifiers. My dad was really into 80s rock and roll.
Q: What do you do at Karma Sauce?
A: My official title is production assistant. I help prep, cook and bottle or bucket sauces for distribution.
Q: What's it like working here?
A: Working at Karma Sauce is probably the most fun I've ever had at a job. Before this I worked in higher education as a secretary and this is a lot more fun because they're a lot more movement and collaboration and I like the idea of getting to see at the end of the day all the things we've accomplished. So that's fun.
Q: Who is your favorite female role model from history?
A: My first thought was Leslie Knope from Parks and Rec. She's very motivated and has tunnel vision once she decides upon a goal.
In terms of actual history I landed on Marie Curie. Thinking about a woman who accomplished so much while still facing discrimination and everything else that comes with being in STEM. Lack of funding, resources, inadequate laboratory equipment and space, but the fact that she accomplished so many things and she's not only the only female but the only person with two nobel prizes in the sciences.
She makes me want to learn more and become an expert in my field.
Q: So what sauce did you choose?
A: Cherry Bomb is my favorite, for one because I love sweet, so when it comes to hot sauces and bbq I like a little bit more sweetness or fruit. When we make Cherry Bomb we put pounds and pounds of cherries in it and it smells so good. And then we add the coffee grounds, and it added such a depth of flavor. It is delicious.
One of the things I've learned working here is that hot sauce isn't just for eggs and tacos and dinners. Lia recommended that I put Cherry Bomb in my peanut butter and spread it on apples. It is so good. Also you can put a little bit on vanilla ice cream. It combines so well with those sweet flavors.
